in 2013 Antwerp was designated European Capital of Sport. On this occasion, an exhibition about Antwerp’s sport clubs was held on the promenade at the MAS: a spiral-shaped, vertical walk along 9 floors, on escalators passing by display cases. For four months we intensively visited about 40 Antwerp sports clubs that shared their stories with us. We put together an enormous archive of pictures and sports attributes, which we made into a scenic story in two parts.
The first part is a graphic story spread out over the display cases along the escalators covering the 9 floors. The visual part contains graphic mountings of absurd associations mixing the different sports together. The story starts under water and ends up in the air, and is combined with enormous mobiles on every floor. The exhibition could be visited at the MAS for a year. In collaboration with Marie Sledsens.
For the second, textual part of the exhibition, we put together a sports paper, named De Tussenstand. For images of De Tussenstand, click here.
